Vmax April 23rd, 2008, 07:12 AM Just curious if the guys here are familiar with cooling vests and if anyone has tried wearing one. Ang init kasi mag-ride lately!!

boylit April 23rd, 2008, 08:58 AM i use one on long trips during summer...
you have to soak it in water... cooling lasts for a couple of hours of straight riding...
manila to legaspi in the heat of summer, i re-soak at lucena, daet and naga
boylit April 23rd, 2008, 09:03 AM oh...
mine's from techniche... it's the evaporative model... they have another version that uses cooling packs but i found it too bulky when i was checking out their vests...
this is the one i use...

Vmax April 23rd, 2008, 09:23 AM Looks nice.
Does Jake sell one Boylit and for how much? Now that you've already been using it for long trips, is it worth what you paid for, and would you recommend it to others? Thanks for the input.
boylit April 23rd, 2008, 09:47 AM it's not teknic... tech niche... got it from the us years back...
if you can live with the damp feeling while riding, i'd highly recommend it... the only difference between this and a damp tshirt is that it keeps the water from evaporating too fast...
bikermice April 23rd, 2008, 10:18 AM ahh i got the idea, evaporative model pala ang gamit mo sir boylit.

bro, nakakabahala ka naman....is this the normal reaction jan sa atin to a rider wearing a complete protective gear ? coming from a rider himself medyo nakaka-alarma lang...

this is why i prefer a wet t-shirt to a cooling vest. faster evaporation=more cooling effect.
Wills_McLaren April 28th, 2008, 08:29 AM pwede din yung The North Face T-shirt A5 series. Iba ang lamig nito at di rin nag iipon ng pawis.. di ko alam kung anong technology meron ito pero maganda sya during summer.

How long does your wet tshirt last? :?
bulacanx1 April 28th, 2008, 11:03 AM How long does your wet tshirt last? :?
MGA 2 HOURS PO ATA .. THEY SELL IN THE us FOR 40 DOLLARS.
noypito April 28th, 2008, 11:09 AM How long does your wet tshirt last? :?
depende sa init ng panahon at sa lakas ng hangin. for city driving, more than sufficient na ang moisture ng isang wet tshirt. for long drives, during pitstops, i buy a bottle of cold water, drink half of it and pour the rest on my shirt.

sir what branch meron ganyan t shirt? meron ba nyan sa gateway? Ty
boylit April 28th, 2008, 04:04 PM this is why i prefer a wet t-shirt to a cooling vest. faster evaporation=more cooling effect.
faster evaporation is not necessarily the most desirable thing... i used wet tshirts before... 30 minutes into riding, the shirt is dry and i'm forced to stop and pour water on myself again... worse, air still passes through straight onto my skin which worsens dehydration... with the vest and a hydration pack, i can pretty much continue riding up to when my low fuel warning light comes on which is about 150 kms...

hindi naman ako sinisipon. noon ko pa ginagawa ito during my athletic days. pansinin mo rin mga nag bibisikleta at mga tumatakbo sa marathon. they do the same. yun din kasi ang effect ng pagpapawis mo. the moisture evaporates. evaporation takes up heat. thus, it cools you down. pag binabasa mo ang shirt mo, parang tinutulungan mo lang ang katawan mo para di na nya kailangang mag secrete ng sobra sobrang tubig. madedehydrate ka kasi pag sobra ang pawis mo.
ryan April 28th, 2008, 08:00 PM Hmm...to beat the really hot weather and still have protection, I'd suggest ...
Coolfit or Dryfit or any good quality T-shirt with similar materials inside para mabilis mag evaporate ang sweat
and
Good quality mesh jacket preferably with CE approved armor inside. Good quality cuz the mesh fabric should be strong enough to absorb damage just in case
:)

noypito April 29th, 2008, 08:16 AM add ko lang. the tshirt im refering to is worn underneath a mesh jacket. pag nagbuhos kayo ng tubig, puedeng thru the mesh jacket na. the reason why a mesh jacket is para tumagos ang hangin at para maka evaporate ang basang tshirt.

yeah shirt works... the only issue i have with it is that it doesn't hold the water long enough...
from experience, i remember it to be at 30-50 kms. thereabouts... with the vest, i went from laoag to tuguegarao which is about 300 kms with only 1 re-soaking (and it was still a bit damp when i stopped to soak)...
RC211V June 29th, 2008, 02:05 PM are you guys serious about the 'wet tshirt' thing?!?! sounds uncomfortable. anyway, how do you keep yourselves cool on regular commutes especially in slow traffic under the sweltering city heat? I wear a light unpadded jacket just to keep off the road stench from my work shirt and a pair of jeans, which i know would all be totally useless in the event of a crash. I just can't be arsed to be wearing protective gear and have to bring my work clothes in a rucksack and change when i get to the office.

yes, serious ako sa wet t-shirt. I do it on long rides during summer. lalo na kung nagraride ka pa rin kahit tanghaling tapat tapos long stretch sya na walang shade. a wet shirt is very much more comfortable than sweating under the heat of the sun.
wobblewheel October 21st, 2008, 09:43 AM Since this topic is changing more to solution options I opened a thread (http://www.motorcyclephilippines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146265) titled appropriately.
