hi guys!

paano nyo ba nililinis ang inyong mga helmet with non-removable cushions? i remember merong thread dito nun.

my helmet is HJC CL-12. nabasa nung tag-ulan at hindi natuyo ng maayos kaya nangangamoy. paano ko siya malilinisan at mapapabango?

share nyo na rin tips nyo para sa iba.

thanks a lot.:?

I can say the best practice is handwashing the interior with a mild soap and air drying. Avoid sun drying since shape of your interior will be distorted.

Ako after soaping the interior, nilulubog ko helmet sa timba or place it under the faucet to thoroughly rinse. Then I just let the excess water drip by gently pressing the foam and then hang it in a well ventilated area inside the house to dry.

I bought a "Kart Kare" inside helmet cleaner in a motorcycleshop here in alabang. Nag fofoam sya at di mo na kailangan tangalin ang cushions inside the helmet . amoy lemon pa. It's worth around 200 pesos. I'm sure they sell it at motorcycle shops any where.:D

use a hose wag mo ilubog sa timba. just position ur helmet upright and wash it with hose. then sabunin mo. kung may amoy use diluted joy. then rinse thoroughly until mawala yung soap. then use hair drier. set mo sa hot. then iwan mong naka blow dry yun. good luck.

You might have an easier time of things if you wear a balaclava, and wash that instead. I haven't had to clean the inside of my HJC CL-12 since I always wear the balaclava to absorb sweat and stuff.

BUT, even with that, I leave my helmet on its side after a ride with an electric fan blowing air thru it and out the open windshield.

I guess that doesn't really help your initial problem, but it could help in the future. :)

Jeff,

Won't the heat from hair drier distort the foam in any way? I've been too hesitant to use it to dry my helmet's interior.

Mean Streak,

Is that you Poch? Long time man. Yes balaclava helps a lot specially on hot ang long rides. Parang deja vu ang thread na 'to ah?

Yup, it's just me -- and you're right, a lot of what's being said was already up in the old Forum, just doing my bit to help rebuild the knowledge base. :)

enchie... u can regulate the heat of the air blowin into your helmet by placing it near or farther away from the helmet :)

meanstreak... did u got my post in one of the thread? is ur cell still the same? i just wanna ask if you were able to adjust the zxr's headlight beam sideways. i was only able to do it up n down :(

jeff, yup, I answered it. My cell and e-mail are the same. Thought you would have tried it first before asking.

Suggestion: Why don't you register on this ZXR400 forum they have on MSN? They would have a lot more information on hand than me, and since it's a Brit site, the ZXR400 is an official import there :)

Your search for a halogen bulb shouldn't get in the way of a day ride, right? Where are you headed this weekend?

ok... actually i was just going to ask you that... about adjustin the headlight beam. this weekend? i don't have any plans yet. but i still can't ride my bike coz of the headlight... even if it's daytime... coz it will overcharge. if i use the high beam... i might go drained :( so i really have to get the correct bulb. called up aries one time... it was nice talkin to him :)

thanks for the tip meanstreak. I always wear a balaclava because it really helps in absorbing the sweat from the head. my helmet got this nasty odor after i used it during the wrath of typhoon chedeng last week. nabasa ang loob and i did not use a fan to let it dry, iniwan ko lang sya para matuyo though i used it everyday kahit di pa tuyo ang loob.

now i know how to take care of it. actually, i washed my helmet already yesterday. mabango na ulit sya ngayon :)

more power guys!!!:*

Dapat talaga mild soap lang ang panlinis sa helmet. Basahin mo ang HJC manual ng helmet mo. Doon ko nabasa sa manual ng hjc ko.:)

Hey that recently happened to me. I had a scooter breakdown so I was force to park my scoot at my cousin's house. I left my moist jacket inside my HJC full face helment. I forgot to remove it and one day I picked up my helmet and notice a foul odor.

Usually I use "Lysol Disinfectant" spray can to get rid of odors. But since I can't find one in our house that day. I used "Shout Fabric Conditioner" instead and sprayed on the foam cushions inside. Luckily it got rid of the smell and my helmet smells nice again. =b

What's a "Balaclava?"

Is that the apparel Race Car drivers and riders wear inside thier helmets?
I notice that they wear a piece of clothing that resembles a snow mask but the fabric is much thinner.

I wonder where you could buy one and how much does it cost?

Aside from absorbing sweat, I have long hair. Wearing a full face helmet somethimes is a drag since I would have to pull my hair back and hope no strands my go astray and annoyingly block my vision. :D

yep that's the one. I noticed you're from San Juan. I believe California Honda sells it. They have a shop in Wilson St., You won't miss it. Sorry can't give you a price.

Since you have long hair. Wear Bandanas inside your Helmet instead of Balaclava, Atleast your hair would still be organized when you take off your helmet. Plus bandanas are cheaper and easy to clean.

just my 2 cents worth of info... literally. :D

KaZmuT, thanks for the info. I know that place coz thats where I bought my helment. Anyway I notice something wierd about California Honda... they don't sell any Honda motorcycles.... or do they? I asked for Honda scooters and they told me they only sell China made Yamada brand.

I would also consider wearing a bandana, but I like to own a Balaclava for its coolness factor. :C On my next trip to greenhills tiange i'll buy a bandana. I don't have a bandana anymore coz I gave to my dog "Blackie" which proudly sports it. :D

bro, a balaclava costs around P250 - P350 or more depending on the brand. i bought mine in taytay which costs P250. just buy 2 so that you have a spare in case you'll wash your dirty balaclava.

Some balaclava has the stitching right in the middle of the face so it disturbs me and for long rides it leaves a mark on your face, Can anyone recommend what brand would be best. For the best price. coz i drop by at powerplant where they sell F1 merchnadise and the there is a Sparco there but it was P2,500 grabe talaga, binitawan ko kaagad.

ako I use an HJC balaclava pero I wear it inside out so that it wont leave a mark on my face if I wear it for extended periods of time. ok naman sya so far.

The Sparco Balaclava has fireproof qualities thats why it is that expensive. You do not need that on a bike unless you plan on ramming your bike on a wall of flame a la stuntman:D

akin din suot ko baliktad... ok naman, pareho lang siguro ang effectiveness nya...

pag bibili kayo balaclava, kunin niyo yung HJC na coolmax para di masyado mainit. maganda ang absorption at evaporation qualities....

just sharing my few cents' worth...

riders like us don't need the sparco balaclavas since they're made of nomex, a fabric with fire retardant. they're more for fire protection than sweat absorption (not to mention the fact that they're outrageously expensive). you can get cotton/lycra balaclavas at dreambikes. i got mine for 350 each if i'm not mistaken. they get the job done (absorb sweat so you helmet won't stink). although i'm curious about the hjc since it's made of coolmax. i have a question for those using hjc, though. since coolmax is supposed to draw sweat away from your skin and make it evaporate, this means it would pass on the sweat to the helmet lining. do your helmets smell of sweat because of this? hypothetical lang ito, i'm just curious. and yup, best way to wear a balaclava is with the stitching on the outside so you don't get marks on your face.

you can also wash the insides of your helmet with upholstery foam. it comes in a can and you just spray the inside of your helmet, let it sit for a few minutes and wipe off. gets rid of dirt and the smell. i also put a thirsty hippo inside my helmet whenever i'm not using it. it absorbs excess moisture so there's no smell that could accumulate.

yun lang po.

my helmet doesn't smell anymore ever since i started using my hjc bala.... i really can't answer your hypothetical question with authority, but i notice that when i ride with it, my head feels cooler than when i ride with helmet alone... but that's just me... i don't know if other coolmax users exprience the same... ;)

Kay Prince Jhay-R sa Muzon, Taytay, Rizal mura lang balaclava imitation nila. Got mine for P50 only, kaya lang wala stock ngayon, next week pa daw, gusto ko pa kasi kumuha ng isa as a reserve.:D
