I agree with Sir Noypito, I own a couple of helmets. In fact I have one of each. Full face, open face, modular and a half face. After trying out each and one of them by my own riding style and environment I frequent, I'm more comfortable with the half face snowboarding or X games helmet. I hardly exceed the 80kph speed mark and my peripheral vision is not limited compare to the other helmets. I take leisurely rides most of the times being basically a weekend rider and I appreciate the view and the eye contacts with people on the roads. I know it's foolish to argue about the amount of safety one must have while on the road but i guess I just have to reflect my passion for riding the bike on a leisurely pace and easy going attitude. My personal opinion is we just take our bikes and riding our bikes too seriously. Every gear has it's use. A full face was designed to handle super bikes and race tracks and the other helmets I'm sure has their own purposes. As too how much safety gear you put on or invest on is i guess a matter of personal preferences considering how much "safe" they want to be or how much "Safe looking" they would want to project. Open face, Half face or just basically skull caps are still in production since it's really ok to wear them. If not, the safety standards will regard them as unfit to wear and would only approve full face helmets. I wear minimal amount of safety gears even if I have 3 or 4 padded jackets in my closet, 4 helmets on my rack and best safety gloves money could by. I'm not ashamed to admit it that I hardly wear all of them. I ride the bike to be free. To live a little one need to be in touch with ones mortality. Thread the needle and to conquer fear. If every time I will ride my bike and compelled to wear a full battle safety suit that compromise my fashion sense and freedom of movement, heck I rather drive my car to get from point A to point B. noypito April 10th, 2008, 09:01 AM i've been comparing my riding style now from my riding style when i was just starting to ride motorcycles a few years back. one thing i realized is mas matulin ako magpatakbo ng motor ngayon. mas sumisingit ako sa kung saan saan since gamay ko na ang response and behavior ng mga motor ko. plus the fact na feeling ko mas secure ako sa gears ko kaya i take more chances. i may have more skills and better gears now than before pero i am still more prone to injuries from accidents kasi nga i take more chances. from time to time, i'd like to revert back to the way things are for me before. yung sobrang sigurista ako. and mabagal ako magpatakbo. plus, as much as possible, i don't use highways with high volume of traffic like edsa and c5. our gears can only lessen the injuries we sustain from accidents pero the best way pa rin is to avoid getting into accidents by not speeding too much and not taking chances. IMHO lang naman. |
