View Full Version : How is the proper way of cleaning the helmet dioZX June 13th, 2004, 08:41 AM Bro advise naman papano ba yung mabilis and proper way of cleaning and removing the odor of the helmet :vomit: nikolai June 13th, 2004, 05:02 PM Mild soap (or anti-bacterial dishwashing liquid. Don't laugh, it works.) And water, and a toothbrush. Don't pour any water into the helmet, it'll take longer to dry. Brush the helmet liner with the solution, you can rinse it with a wet (but not dripping) face towel. Repeat as needed. To dry it, press tissue paper (some prefer newspaper) to the lining, change as needed. Sun the helmet lining-side up for a few hours to really dry it out. After that you're ready to clean the helmet shell and visor... hope this helps :) littlebadboy June 13th, 2004, 05:38 PM make a baking soda solution. wipe it hard on your helmet's linings until the cloth or sponge you are using doesnt collect any dirt. if you want (optional), you can make another stronger baking soda solution and dab it unto your lining. then dry it in front of an electric fan. if you dabbed a stronger baking soda solution unto the lining, when it dries you will see a white powdery build up on your lining. this will act as a deodorizer next time when you use your helmet. it should protect your helmet from odor for the next few months. thanks to Patrick for this tip. dioZX June 13th, 2004, 10:58 PM Tnx hehehe I will do it. :) fedaplus June 14th, 2004, 08:22 AM my 2 cents worth... always wear a balaclava to prevent your head from direct contact with your helmet liner. it's (balaclava) easier to clean (laundry) than the helmet itself... :) Jo A. June 14th, 2004, 08:59 AM If your helmet doesn't have removable liners, just use Lysol spray. Spray it on the inside. Lysol kill bacteria so its 2 birds with one stone. No need to soap and water. littlebadboy June 14th, 2004, 09:08 AM i already tried and lysol and everything... nothing worked better and last longer than our baking soda secret. sinski_toybikes June 14th, 2004, 10:00 AM try to put it in direct sunlight to dry up the moist of the inner part.coz if the moist does not dry up it creates odor and bacteria i suppose.then when drying it up spray lysol to eliminate odor.then spray a cologne if you want..i also wax my helmet on the exterior part.to give it a shine... :C elgatonegro June 14th, 2004, 10:41 AM my 2 cents worth... always wear a balaclava to prevent your head from direct contact with your helmet liner. it's (balaclava) easier to clean (laundry) than the helmet itself... :) yup. i agree w/u BRO. that's the most easier way to prevent your head direct with your helmet liner. And besides, it can prevent also dust to your neck. :) pongki_shawie June 14th, 2004, 11:04 AM make a baking soda solution. wipe it hard on your helmet's linings until the cloth or sponge you are using doesnt collect any dirt. if you want (optional), you can make another stronger baking soda solution and dab it unto your lining. then dry it in front of an electric fan. if you dabbed a stronger baking soda solution unto the lining, when it dries you will see a white powdery build up on your lining. this will act as a deodorizer next time when you use your helmet. it should protect your helmet from odor for the next few months. thanks to Patrick for this tip. hmmm... nice lbb.. ill try this asap :) GOwin August 23rd, 2004, 03:05 PM make a baking soda solution. wipe it hard on your helmet's linings until the cloth or sponge you are using doesnt collect any dirt. if you want (optional), you can make another stronger baking soda solution and dab it unto your lining. then dry it in front of an electric fan. what's the recommended mix for this? littlebadboy August 23rd, 2004, 05:26 PM around 3 tablespoons to a cup for the mild solution and 5 tablespoons for the stronger. it's a trial and error thingy i guess. always works for me. Willard_cy August 25th, 2004, 01:42 AM hhuuuuummmp! ill try this baking soda solution...tnx for the info littlebadboy... nikolai August 25th, 2004, 08:49 AM Baking soda? Ok yun, a... masubukan nga... littlebadboy August 25th, 2004, 09:10 AM Hey guys! Hold your horses. Here's the complete instruction/write up from Patrick: Keeping Helmet smell away-- I have tried in the past all sorts of things, the vilest being spraing the helmet liner with Lysol. Soap kind of works but leaves a waxy deposit. What I do is to use baking soda. Wach liner by giving it a sponge bath with a mild solution of baking soda and water. Once clean-- no more grey goop getting absorbed by the sponge, go over the liner with a very very strong solution of baking soda and water and do not sponge off the excess. Dry in front of and electric fan. The baking soda will show itself as white powder on the helmet liner. 1. Baking soda is a mild cleaning agent that was popular in the past for general household use. 2. Baking soda is a known deodorant usually used in closets and refrigerators 3. Baking soda is a popular ingreedient in skin tonics and is known to be good for the skin. Therefore a residue of baking soda in the helmet after cleaning and electric fan drying gives: Deodorizing Action Additional Cleaning Action some benefits to the facial skin Because of the above, I only need to clean my helmet maybe once in 6 weeks (and I ride daily)-- the helmet only begins to smell past the 2 month mark! Note: I have found that any other deodorizer such as Ozium or fragrances that mask the smell of stinking helmets make it even worse-- it hurts the eyes. Most of the smell is because of moulds and bacterial growth thrving on the moisture and protein content of the sweat plus dead skin particles. Baking soda impedes the growth and proliferation fo moulds and bacteria by presenting an adverse pH level. Mild is +/-1 to 2 teaspoons per cup of water. Strong is a super-saturated solution-- dissolve so much baking soda in the water that any more does not dissolve and just settles at the bottom-- that is something like 3-4 tablespoons per cup. Good luck guys! FREESPIRIT August 30th, 2004, 10:23 PM Why don't you try spraying it with lysol spray. I spray mine and have no smelly problems at all. FREESPIRIT III October 20th, 2004, 01:51 AM ang d best lagi kang mag shampoo every time you take a bath! yan ang malupit na secret ko! para laging malinis at smell fresh your helmet Radical! October 21st, 2004, 05:39 PM Thanks for the tips! One other thing I do when I clean/wash my helmet. After drying the helmet lining after a day (indoors), I stuff the inside of the helmet with old newspaper. The old newspapers absorb excess odors :W and the extra moisture  ... botchix October 21st, 2004, 07:31 PM Here's what I do...... CLEANING 1 Remove the cheek pads, clean and dry them separately. 2 I use J&J shower gel without the use of any brush that can damage the fabric. Dishwashing liquid is great too but needs plenty of water to get all the soap out. 3 Wet the whole inside of the lid under the tap water and soap it up with J&J. Lift the dirt by pressing on the fabric and foam with fingers. Might as well clean the visor and shell in one go. 4 Remove the soap by running it under the tap and pressing on the fabric and foam with fingers. Then press the excess water out. Use a towel if you must. 5 Leave it to dry naturally away from direct sunlight (electric fan is good). or airing cupboard. Here's what I do...... KEEPING THE ODOUR OUT! 1 NEVER PUT YOUR GLOVES INSIDE YOUR LID! Your gloves will collect all the sh!t on the road so why put them inside your lid? This is the major sin! 2 Do not let anyone else wear your lid, not necessarily for hygiene but for damage to the foams in the lid which had already shaped to your head. 3 Wash your head and dry before using the lid. You only have to do this once before leaving the house. 4 Do not use perfume inside the lid, perfume and sweat do not mix well :vomit: 5 Do not use hair gel, if you do, wear a balaclava. Hair gel will stick on the fabric and absorb by the foam. :vomit: Now, I have a lid with removeable lining and cheek pads so I just stick them in the washing machine. :I I still have to do the above to clean the rest but not as much work as it used to. :) jawfree October 21st, 2004, 09:26 PM i will take that advices..... mas ok syempre kung bago gumamit ng helmet wash your hair properly and use conditioner. gaganda pa ang buhok mo! hehehe, di ako bakla kla kla kla klah. froilanr October 22nd, 2004, 09:07 AM Siempre hindi lang kaagad mangangamoy ang helmet kapag malinis ang hair lagi, pero darating sa oras na kailangan din linisin ang helmet. Kaya mas-maganda alam natin ang proper way sa paglinis nito. Tamang tama ang thread na ito, kasi I need to wash my 2nd helmet. krelin21 October 22nd, 2004, 12:54 PM balaclava ? mga magkano naman kayo yun, |
