Hi,

I have a problem with cleaning my leather gloves (komine Gk-373, Alpinestar SP-2). Had been using them in the rain and the problem is I have been getting this black stain from within and am wondering how to have the gloves cleaned. Machine wash would be a major "No-no" beacuse of the carbon-fiber on the back of the hand, knuckles and fingers.

Any suggestions? It's hard to shake hands with a "stained" hand eh! :O

Btw, how do you guys clean your phoenix gloves din?

ang dami namang tanong ng taong ito... :D

bro, komine din yung gloves ko na may carbon fiber. ang ginawa ko:

1. babad sa tubig na may sabon (powder) for 15-20 mins. (wag tagalan, baka masira)
2. medyo kusutin mo afterwards - as in parang piga-piga lang ng konti - be careful not to overdo it. konting finesse lang...
3. banlawan ng maige.
4. isampay under the shade - wag paarawan...masisira

ok ba? tell me what happened kung nagawa mo na....

i dunno if this would work but ive been using this to clean all my gloves regardless of any material. on a basin fill it with water, soak your gloves then using your knuckles, punch/dab ur gloves downwards with variable force (depending on the material of your gloves, you should be able to know if you're giving enough force). the water will soon get dirty, replace water and add mild soap, or small amount of dish washing soap. do the same procedure of punching ur gloves again. if you can reverse ur gloves much better, do the same procedure, finally replace soapy water and rinse. goodluck.

Ei Jeff!

I dunno, my gloves are all leather with carbon-fiber stuff on 'em so that reversing thingy is out na:) Well, just keep on posting then am sure something will come out... Thanks!

when i bought my komine gloves, i asked the dealer how to clean it. they just simply said that if possible, don't get it wet 'coz its performace will be different. but for you, rage, i think you don't have any choice but to get your gloves wet. i am still figuring it out also how to get it cleaned...

How about getting it dry cleaned?

Bad idea getting gloves dry cleaned. They're leather. What keeps them supple and elastic is the oil in the leather. Dry clean would dry them out. So will rinsing them them in soap and water.

To clean just wipe or brush with soapy water and wipe dry.

Its not really cleaning, but if the dye on the glove leather keeps smearing your hands, then the water is washing out the dye to your hands. Try oiling the glove to make it more water resistant. I recommend mink oil or cream (try a gun store, used for leather holsters). If you want to save cash, get a bottle of leather restorer for car upholstery. But if you can afford it, mink oil is the best. It really does make the leather weatherproof.

BTW, if your palms sweat a lot, I would recommend you put on some talcum powder on your hands before putting on the leathers. Mink oil may keep rainwater out. But it wont help much if you also sweat from the inside.

but the problem is, how can we get it done when we can't get our gloves reversed to the other side???

You dont really have to turn the gloves inside out.

I use a very old worn down toothbrush with very soft bristles. I used my sister's liquid body wash with moisteurizer mixed with water, then use the toothbrush to brush away the dirt. Wipe it down with a clean rag with the help of the other end of the toothbrush. You wont be able to dry it out completely but it will take most of the water out. Then stuff it with newspaper which will absorb the moisture. Air dry only, never dry it out in the sun or it will dry out and shrink! Once dry, give it a good oiling using leather conditioner or mink oil. Allow a few hours for the leather to absorb the oil.

Folks,

Leathers, even treated, don't like to get wet. I often wondered about this 'cause cows and deer don't mind rain! Anyway, sfar as I know leathers respond well to Saddle Soap--yes, this was originally made for leather saddles and is still being used by cowboys and gals for their leather jackets, chaps, pants, you name it. Won't dry the leather and keeps supple. Trouble is, I haven't seen this sa 'Pinas but stateside and I suppose elsewhere nearby, there should be. I wouldnt use mink oil if original 'cause i think there's ban on it.

Cheers,
tcorp

you may follow rebel250's procedures.

if you can't find a body wash with moisturizer you can use your ordinary bath soap. not the laundry or dishwashing soaps, they are too harsh on the leather. use an old toothbrush to scrub off stains and dirt. if you can turn your gloves inside out the better so you can also brush the insides well. Rinse well after cleaning.

after you're done wipe the gloves with dry cloth. with a cotton bud swab the outer leather with baby oil. then hang to dry (indoors only). you can wipe the excess oil witha dry cloth (cotton cloth is preferred).

well there are some stains that you cannot remove unless you dye it.
