Been using my Zeus 508W helmet for almost 2 years now.......the first time I saw it in Exceed store, I was easily attracted by its matt finish......got the black one and went home happy w/ it.....as time passed by, napansin kong dagli syang papangit ng papangit......lumabas na at very obvious na ang scratches at other marks dahil sa paggamit sa byahe......my beau helmet was no longer that attractive anymore......tried all the remedies i could (wax, armor all & even tire black)....yet still to no avail.....almost loose hope on how to regain the beauty of my helmet.....some suggested that i repaint it instead.....then one day, meron kaming ride to Mt. Samat last Jan. 20.....fortunately, i had a small talk w/ my colleagues from PSRC....Iconlord introduced me to Whonrada and naikwento nya on what he just did w/ his Matt Silver Caberg helmet......he just used lacquer thinner lang daw to remove the rubberized-like paint on the outer layer of the shell....adamant on the idea, still i bought it.....sabi ko, nothing to lose & i'm desperate na rin.....back home, i tried an ordinary paint thinner (left over) but was unsuccessfull.....then one time, i dropped by a local hardware shop & bought a P25 bottle lacquer thinner.......got some rag and started applying it to my shell....voila!!!!....it works!!!!....nabuhayan ako..........tsinaga ko lang na pahid at kuskos and in 1 hour time, natapos ko rin....di nga lang ganun kapulido since i did it ng gabi, hehe.

Special thanks to Sirs Whonrada & Iconlord!

BTW....here are the pics of my "new flat black" Zeus 508W helmet....sensya na kung medyo malabo, camfone shots only....:D

TIASir....akala ko nga nung una mabubura nga sya kaya nanghingi pa ako sa clubmate ko ng extra Zeus sticker just in case.....but to my surprise, di sya nabura....pumuti at nalinis pa nga!!!....yung rubberized layer nya lang talaga ang naalis:)

Sir ever considered spray painting it with a clear oat pero may halong deadening flat? You will have a protective coat pero matt finish.

Col Ted,

Not sure if this is a good idea, but lids are suppose to be free from any substance/solvent am I right?

BongSir Bong.....you're definitely right, that already came to my mind before i did this and kaya din naglagay ako ng disclaimer at the very start,hehe....anyway, as i've observed di naman ganun kaharsh ang effect nung lacquer thinner sa finish ng helmet, yung rubberrized part lang ang natanggal....even the Zeus logo remained intact & unpeeled.....i may be wrong though, yet obserbahan ko rin in time.....wala lang talaga akong maisip na solusyon instead of having it repainted:)

just like w/ refurbishing or helmet paintings, most likely you'll be using lacquer thinner & paints on them too....:)

also got this from motorhelmets.com website:
http://www.motorhelmets.com/htm-service/resources-motorcycle-info-helmet-maintenance.htm
Exterior Cleaning - We recommend cleaning your helmet with products designed for automotive cleaning and polishing. All HJC helmets are finished with an automotive type base coat/clear coat finish. Rubbing compounds can be used for deap cleaning to remove many scratches and scuffs. Follow the products instructions diligently. Over polishing with rubbing compounds can cause light abrasioins which dull the finish of your helmet. Stickers and decal's will leave adhesives when removed, to remove the adhesive, use alcohol swabs or lightly diluted lacquer thinner. Be certain to immediately wipe away the access liquid and clean the area with soap and water once the adhesive is removed. Never let either alcohol or lacquer thinner sit on the helmet surface and do not use excessive pressure when attempting to remove the adhesive.

so i guess, it's safe and worth the try....but then again, just read my disclaimer at the very start of this thread.....:)
