INSPIRED BY SPORT MOTORCYCLING IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PARSONS SCHOOL OF FASHION DESIGN.

With Ducati as their inspiration, the students of the Parsons School of Fashion Design in New York have created a line of apparel which will be launched in Italy during World Ducati Week 2004.

Last week in New York, Ducati, in collaboration with the Parsons School, took to the catwalk for the first time with a high fashion collection inspired by the world of Italian sport motorcycling.

Present at the launch of the collection were Eric Bostrom, AMA Superbike championship rider and Parson alumnus Marc Jacobs, designer and creative director of Louis Vuitton, who was awarded a special career prize during the evening by Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola.

Innovative Italian design and advanced Ducati technology – were the starting points for the Parsons students, who developed a complete range of sport and fashion apparel and accessories for men and women. The Ducati/Parsons Project was conceived by Ducati’s Creative Director, David Gross, who in Autumn 2003 challenged the students of the Parsons school to create a new line of apparel and accessories inspired by the image of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, world leader in high performance motorcycles. Over the last few years, Ducati has developed a technical line of performance apparel and accessories, marketed under the Ducati Performance name, that has become significant to the company’s overall sales.

Among the highly-applauded student designs were: Natalia Allen's men's jacket and leather trousers uniting comfort and power; Nery Vargas’s stunning perforated leather dress with red Ducati belt, and Jane Choi, who integrated the historical Ducati logos into her gorgeous soft., vintage boots and handbags.

Megan Murphy presented a stylized T-shirt and denim pants with yellow detailing, while Alison Rojas showed baggy trousers with ankle zippers with a yellow shirt and black leather vest that exuded aggressive self-confidence.

Motorcycling and femininity are the hallmarks of the Ducati women's range: clean, dynamic lines for a hip relaxed look. Ian Heath showed a self-confident and sensual woman in strapless white leather logo dress.

Joanne Marie Reyes displayed a bold ensemble featuring a black leather overcoat with yellow detailing, while June Kettaneh and Kristina Fuchs opted for the classic chic of overcoat, bustier and pants all in black leather.

"Made in Italy" was also the common theme for the materials used by the designers. The National Institute for Foreign Commerce collaborated with the Italian Fabric Industry Association to promote the high quality and innovative technology of Italian fabrics with these designers of the future.

“An incredible challenge with stupendous results! The collection anticipates many of the trends we are seeing in high performance motorcycle apparel and accessories. We look forward to seeing the collection presented at the Italian launch at the World Ducati Week where we expect at least 30,000 Ducati roaring enthusiasts,” said David Gross.

The Parsons School is the alma mater of many outstanding American designers, including Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Tom Ford and Fernandez Rodriguez among many others.
