On the 8th of October last year I wrote about the promising Reevu Motorcycle Helmets fitted with an integral mirror system ({link}). It looks like you can now buy these helmets!

It would appear that the helmets are manufactured under license by GPA Helmets and are now being distributed. Although I have not had the chance to get my hands on one to test myself, the French motorcycle magazine Moto Magazine did (hint hint GPA).

Basically, the magazine liked the helmet itself, it's well aired, comfortable and well soundproofed. But they do state that it takes a long time to get used to the mirror, specially since you need to angle your head in a very "strict" angle and once you "capture" the traffic behind you, you loose 10/ths of seconds understanding it. In their opinion, it takes too long to see what's going on behind you.

They feel that this innovative helmet is more of interest when you're stopped to admire the scenery (or pillion passenger) behind you. I'll need to try out the helmet before I pass any real judgment on it....

The motorcycle helmet costs 349 Euros here in France.

To use the helmet properly the vision system is used as a passive aid. In a similar way to how we use the mirrors on our bikes or car. If an image comes into the viewer you can pick it up without looking into the optic system using your peripheral vision. You then have the choice either to take a look or not. The helmet is needed to be worn for at least 30min to 1 hr to understand the significance of using it. Wearing it in a retail outlet or in the house wont give the effect that is needed to impress the wearer into buying or having the helmet. Once the helmets are readily available and have the benefit of use from road and track guys / gals the true impact of this invention will become apparent.

Has anyone in the Philippines or Hong Kong got stock yet? I am very interested in buying one if I can afford it.

Where Are The Mirrors Attached? Won't It Cause A Blind Spot Up Front? Are The Mirrors Protruding Outside The Actual Helmet Width? Won't It Cause Head Shaking Turbulance When You Wear Them At High Speeds? Won't It Affect The Aerodynamics Of The Helmet Itself?? Pardon Me For Asking Too Many Questions, Am Just Intrigue Of The Product. Is There A Website Were I Can View It? I Just Have To See Them, To Get The Silly Picture Out Of My Head. :)
