View Full Version : Is it hard to maintain a Vespa?

Good day Vespanatics!

Been contemplating always of having a vespa.

Is it that hard to maintain? Does it match a big bike for maintenance? Even my li'l 2t scooter needs TLC for its transmission, plyballs, pulleys, belts, etc. But Jap parts are abundant.

If i'd get one, maybe i'll go for a four stroke. but i don't know what model is.

Any suggestions?

TIA!

Sir,
There are two kinds: The 2 stroke Vespa (PX, P series, vintage) and the Automatics, also known as the Modern Vespas.
I've had both kinds and I can say that it does not take a lot to maintain these scooters. With the PX, just check on the 2- stroke oil level of the bike and standard things like tire pressure, battery, etc. Bring a few spark plugs in your compartment and you're all set. Sometimes you have to change the plug, but its so easy..nothing like the work you do for the big bikes.
With the 4-stroke automatics like the LX, GT and ET, you even do less ride lang ng ride,as long as you've done the oil change at the correct times, changed the plugs, have the belt and rollers checked for wear, you can ride for thousands of kms without problems. I see my ride buddies who had SYM Joyride do more stuff with their scoots. And as in most things, the more you kalikot, the more trouble you get into.
I hope this answers your question.
P.S. So it does not cost as much as maintaining a big bike, but the parts do cost more than parts of Taiwan scoots. Italy po kasi, and not everyone knows how to fix them. Punta na lang po kayo sa 2211 para walang problema.

thanks sir for your reply:D

another question po, since you've had both kinds, which do you suggest for me to have? a 2t or 4t?

Also, can you give me an idea on how much the maintenance parts cost? Belts, rollers, pulleys etc? I've seen upgrade parts on the classifieds, but i have no idea on how much the said parts will damage me.

Thanks sir sean!

hi,
first of all female ako, but you may call me seangreen ;)
if the vintage look appeals to you, go with the PX...vintage look without the vintage troubles..very reliable. but beware, you have to shift! and that's where the fun is.
about the parts for the matic Vespas, a kevlar belt for my ET4 was around 2k pero hindi yan basta basta napuputol unlike those for other scoots. yung rollers mura lang, similar to Taiwan scoot prices. the parts are not as easily found as for the SYM and Kymco scoots but you can always rely on 2211 ;)

Good day ma'am!

Thank you for enlightening me once more. It's nice to know there are lots of female vespa riders, my wife is reading along with me and i'm convincing her in getting one.

I like the vintage look really, but i guess there is no 4t vespa with the look. We will drop by 2211 one of these days to see the model line up.

Thanks maam!

Also, I think radio dj crystal also rides a vespa:D

Seen all the ads here at mcp, price ranges from 100-150k for the px series.
I really would like to have a 4r scoot but my wife and i love the classic design of the px.

Oh well... will be hunting for a good deal...

Thanks ma'am!

Great help!

You might want to check out boylit's ET8...also a Vespa..Taiwan issued, 4 stroke automatic and has a paint scheme your wife will probably love. It's in the ads :)

we've visited the vespaattack at the fort last december. my wife fancied the et4 parked near the gate. she bought me a vespa shirt:D

sir boylit's et8 is the tricolored one. italian paintjob:D very nice

Will look into the prices of the et4 or et8. Para automatic na. we fancy a white or yellow one.

Thanks again maam!

when inspecting a second hand vespa, what should i ask or look for?

TIA!

First you need to ask is it still the original paint, are there dings or dents or tinsmithing already done. Is it the true mileage on the odometer? Does the engine need major servicing?

I hope i helped you in your query.

Thanks doc for the instant reply!

am also browsing vespinoy, like sir doomzday.

I think i've found a vespa for me and my wife, it's at the ads. PX150e white and mintgreen.

If all goes well, we'll be attending one of your get togethers. I've been to the vespa attack at the fort. Really great!

I've been riding for about 7 years, and I know nothing about the cult following.

I need to ask which switch is for what, also the lever under the seat. Will drop by 2211 works for some vespa work, also for mechanics to inspect the ride and more knowledge about the scoot.

Thanks doc!

@ardie - nice looking vespa you got there.

i also got mine last sat from a well-known forumer here (thanks corrine) and got to test run it at marilaque last sunday. awesome experience. yesterday, i replace the rear wheel using the delmonte 202 can as jack...hahahaha. effective talaga. also had a chance to peek at the engine coz i need to stencil the engine and body number for the registration.

here's my IRENE on our quickie ride to marilaque.. sorry for the OT :)
