View Full Version : Shades at Eyeglasses inside Helmets
majongero November 14th, 2007, 07:39 AM i don't know if there's a thread similar to this, but let me shoot my question anyway.
i've been seeing more and more riders wearing eyeglasses and/or shades inside their helmets for. is this safe?
slikpartna November 14th, 2007, 09:16 AM So far so good..in fact, i feel more comfortable wearing eyeglasses (or sunglasses when I'm on contacts).
wasted_23 November 14th, 2007, 09:27 AM if the lens is shatterproof, i don't think there is a problem.:)

shatterproof.
how about the reading glasses and the cheaper sunglasses?
mikafajardo November 14th, 2007, 12:10 PM shatterproof.

Im quite guilty on this. Have been using my riding glasses that is not so expensive. Also, it is a struggle for us especially during rain when it our glasses start to fog.

chief,
what are the riding glasses that we may consider safe? i apologize, the price may not even be a consideration in getting a safe eye gear.
mixme November 14th, 2007, 12:35 PM mas hindi safe sa rider kung perscription lense ay hindi isusuot diba?...as far as your helmet lenses are shatterproof for sure safe parin gumamit ng sunglass!... im doing this for such a long time with my Rudy Project Horus... may grado kasi eyes ko... but Im using HJC helmet and i know the lenses of my helmet is shatterproof...
pero dun sa cheaper one... i think that makes a little bit unsafe...lalo na kung helmet lids are not shatterproof din!...for me helmet parin ang magdadala niyan eh...
as far as i know transitions lenses are good but i don't know if it shatterproof....
GUNDAM168 November 14th, 2007, 12:48 PM Some prescription lenses have anti glare coating on it and will be very useful against oncoming headlight glare. Some also have anti fog coatings. Just talk to your friendly optometrist and he/she will recommend lenses and frames for your specific purpose.

Sir,
I am not aware of the answer for this. Mine is just the regular prescription glasses that you buy over the counter. For my everyday use, I do have a regular frame but quite expensive. During riding days, I use my very ordinary frame that I also use for badminton. My reason is that my everyday frame is not that flexible. Meaning I am am afraid it might just bend if I insert it while using my helmet. Very tight space given that my lids fit me well plus the balaclava.

Thanks for the input. I am familiar with the anti - glare but the anti-fog coating sounds interesting. I only know of spray type solutions that can do the trick. Let me ask around this weekend for lenses with anti-fog coatings.:)
Ichthus Janz November 14th, 2007, 02:18 PM I wear my Rudy Project Exception (variable lenses for prescription and tints) under my HJC helmet when its too sunny. But I dont speed up too much usually drive at 40 to 60 kmh max.
I guess as long as the helmet is a secure fit and the lenses are shatter proof it will be ok to wear them under a helmet.

Just avoid the "frameless" prescription glasses thats in the mod today. Yung bang brackets and bridge are embedded sa lens itself. Though its fashionable because of its "barely there" frameless look pero masyado siya maselan to be worn for riding.
A cheaper alternative would be Kontrol Sports brand of shades.
As for the anti-glare and anti fog coatings, I had to pay an extra P1000 for those options but they're really useful.
kanuto123 November 19th, 2007, 12:13 PM hmm trying to fit glasses?mahirap ata un ah kc snug fit po ang helmet ung oakley na prescription glasses ko na basag trying to fit thru my helmet(polycarbonate un lng frameless)..kung pumasok man masakit nmn ung upper part ng ear nyo due to pressure galing sa helmet hindi ako comfortable in a long run...pansin ko po ung mga naka suot ng prescription/eye glasses/shades sa loob ng helmet eto po ung helmet na loose fit na sa ulo ung aalog alog na delikado na po eto kc hindi na snug fit....
kurtbayer November 21st, 2007, 03:04 PM kung malabo ang eyes mo then obviously it is not safe to ride without wearing your prescription glasses. the lens should be plastic and multicoated for better vision. in fact, the plastic lenses will even provide additional protection for your eyes. and make sure your helmets are certified.
the trick is to wear the helmet first without the glasses on you. then insert the glasses after you have worn the helmet. when removing the helmet, you should remove your eye glasses first before removing the helmet.

ako fafi, i use an Oakley O3 rimless titanium frame slapped with transition Polycarbonate lense.
1. suot muna helmet
2. suot salamin
kapag hihinto or papagas or papahinga,
1. hubad salamin
2. hubad helmet

VASILI November 22nd, 2007, 12:46 PM pang tora tora yan ah..
azzkicker November 23rd, 2007, 10:12 AM sir ako 500+ ang grado tapos may astigmatism pa and been driving a my bike for 6months na and 4wheels (10 years na cguro) wala pang problema either glasses or contacts.
Pero always make sure na may backup ka either lumang PRESCRIPTION GLASSES mo o extra pair ng lubricated contact lenses which cu can buy now for less 1k 6 pairs na yun.
NSCB November 23rd, 2007, 12:58 PM i've been wearing glasses since high school and had been riding bikes since '89...i always wear my eyeglasses whatever helmet ang gamit ko....its easier puting on and removing eyeglass when using helmets with bigger earports....and maybe, sanayan din lang...

dudsrox November 26th, 2007, 12:35 PM In my case, mahirap magride ng walang salamin or my kahit my salamin. I tried using balaclava din pero tuiwng exhale kc, direcho sa salamin ung hangin eh so ngffog. Im looking for an option sana, either with the visors or with my glasses para di msakit sa mata ung araw. So far, naghahanap parin ako.. hehehe..
Ride safe mga bro!
SwiftWind November 27th, 2007, 11:39 AM ako rin i'm wearing eyeglasses when riding. problema ko lang talaga during rain dahil sa fog. Pag contacts naman kailangan close yung visor to keep my eyes away from dust.
I'm looking for fog-resistant eye glasses na mura lang.
Gusto ko sana lasik kaso mahal kaya ipon muna.
ride safe everyone!

laway mo lang ang solution dyan. no need to buy expensive anti-fog chemicals. subok na yan ng mga scuba divers.
mandon November 28th, 2007, 08:04 PM ive been doing that eversince....even nga when i was riding my kmx pa....i put sunglasses under my googles....kasi i dont want to use colored lenses kasi mahirap sa gabi....mejo masakit nga isuot yun glasses sa full face.....pero sanayan din....
SwiftWind November 28th, 2007, 10:20 PM mga bros, meron ba dyan na nagpa-lasik eye surgery?
gusto ko sana lasik para free na from dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
thanks and ride safe.
kimmpoy December 2nd, 2007, 07:35 PM So whats the answer?? safe po ba mag suot ng shades inside ng helmet?? kasi ako din !! im wearing my Rudyproject inside my HJC helmet. clear lens lang kasi ang lens ng HJC ko eh. madalas akong nasisilaw pag day ride?
safe ba syang practice??
scrambler December 2nd, 2007, 07:50 PM Maganda po gamitin ang
mga safety glasses from ACE
inside your half face helmets.
Kahit maulan hindi nagkakaroon
ng fog kasi may ventilating
holes sa sides.
Mas maganda po iyong
amber para sa night ride.
May black din po para naman
sa sunny weather.
Mura lang po mahigit lang
100 pesos.
Kapag full face po ang
gamit kong helmet,
wrap around sunglasses or
clear glasses na may soft
temple guards.

It slides easily into my full face helmet.
