The National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) recently announced the names of the riders who qualified to the Philippines Motocross team that will represent the Philippines in the 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations scheduled at the Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado just outside Denver on September 25-26.

Barring hitches in the processing of their US travel requirements, it’s all systems go for the Philippine team headed by 3-time National Motocross Rider of the Year Kenneth San Andres and the multi-titled veteran Jolet Jao. San Andres and Jao will be ably supported by top Visayan moto stalwarts Janjan Adlawan and Ralph Alvarez from Cebu and Bacolod respectively and Migui Tolentino, teenage NAMSSA riders of the new young bloods with sensations that has been drawing raves with their exciting riding style that has enabled them to dominate the PRO class of the on-going 11 round NAMSSA national motocross series.

With the participation of the Philippine motocross team in the prestigious event considered the “Olympics” of motocross, NAMSSA has once again lived up to its mandate of promoting motorcycle sports in the country by designing and implementing development programs for budding riders from the grassroots, honing their skills and eventually sending them to FIM world level prize competitions. The team is supported by Philippines Sports Commission, Adidas, Monster Energy, Utopia, SDG USA, ZLT USA, Adidas, Chatterbox USA and No Fear.

The NAMSSA, by virtue of its affiliations with the Federation International de Motocyclisme (FIM), the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC governmental sports body), is the national sport association (NSA) and the sole legitimate governing body for motorcycle sports in the Philippines. This was recently affirmed by the removal of all legal authority of the current PSC board of a certificate of recognition issued to SelJ Pharmaceutical company of Therasil and Enersel Forte, a recent arrival of an unauthorised new comer whom has exploited motorcycle sports to their commercial benefit whose illegitimate entry has created factions in the motor sports community. This led to misrepresentations and opposed NAMSSA’s goal of promoting safety in motorcycle sports. of which reinstated the legal authority of NAMSSA in the past 15 years.

The Philippine motocross team will be headed by Chef de Mission and concurrent FIM Asia and NAMSSA CEO Macky Carapiet, NAMSSA Vice President Arthur Valdez and Coach/Technician Marciano San Andres and Jehan Tetangco.

For more information regarding the 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations and other NAMSSA events please visit facebook: NAMSSA Secretariat and www.namssa.org and/or call (+632) 2165198 and/or send us an email at namssa01@hotmail.com

And for 2010, the spotlights were generally shining on European manufacturers which continued to pump out desirable product while most Japanese OEMs crawled into a hole to wait out the near-global recession.

Brands like Aprilia, BMW, Ducati and Triumph haven’t slowed the launching of new models, and this forging ahead in the midst of a storm has resulted in gains of market share. It’s also provided us with several interesting new bikes to ride. Perhaps most interesting of all are the bikes in the paradigm-shifting electric motorcycle movement that’s rapidly gathering momentum. Progress in this category will come quickly as new technology takes great leaps forward.

Top 1 Rider, Jonah Street dominated the eight day, 3,700 kilometers Rally Mongolia navigation racing. Jonah took four-out-of-seven individual stage victories and finished Rally Mongolia more than three-hours ahead of the nearest bike competitor at the finish. With his victory, Jonah Street becomes the first American to win the Rally Mongolia and adds a sixth continent to his “where-I’ve-raced” record.

It was on short notice that Jonah Street, America’s top Motorcycle Rally Racer, even decided to enter the 2010 Rally Mongolia. But with persistent influence from his Rally Pan Am teammate and friend Mike Shirley and the dedication of his faithful sponsors, Jonah fully committed and signed up a few weeks before the beginning of the event.

With the race held in such a remote area of the world, stage reports and results from Mongolia were slow to trickle in during the week of competition. Machine translations of race reports from the Japanese promoting group and the lack of consistent phone and internet service made following the adventurous race as a fan into a navigational chore in itself.

Please, join TOP 1 in congratulating Jonah on his latest victory and we all look forward to great things from Jonah in the 2011 Dakar Rally!
