Moto Flight of Fantasy

Forum member obijuan’s fantastic recall of his very first MX Race. Way to go obijuan!

Dear Diary,

Last Saturday, on July 21, 2007, I had an affair….
To think that this event coincides with the 2007 FIM UAM Asia Supercross Championships made it even more exciting…

Seeing a live race like this was at least one of my main goals before I reach the age of 2nd-childhood (40 yrs above, that is). And much more that joining a motocross race on a whim, with no practice, no preparation, no bike (well, not until two days before then), is a far-fetch yet life-long ambition of mine that just came true!

During the actual run of the course, it was very intense… there were many categories for one to join in, and you just have to know your own limited capacity to belong to the proper group. I asked for the the slowest possible category I could belong to and I was listed under Open Beginner Production. Oh boy what a bunch of skilled and fast riders I got to ride with, I thought to myself I must have been in the wrong group!!

What with double jumps, celebrity riders (Glen Aguilar), high flying riders, and even six-year old ones could beat the living daylights out of me!!

Watching a motocross race is fun; but joining and actually racing in one is all but a different matter! When you are in the sidelines among the crowds yelling, cheering and clapping for your bet it gives you so much excitement and joy. But when you are the bet itself and faced with the prospect of doing a double-whoopie jump that you have to clear, (oh my gosh, I think my pants just got wet!!) you are in the point of no return—you just have to either GLIDE or DIVE!!

So the race went on, and round and round we go, gently down the stream of dust did I tasted lots of it… Well, it was worth the taste test for I was just cruising along the path, not intending to win, riding my own pace, just passing time and enjoying the scene (while it lasted)!!

Well now after all the dust had settled (hmmm… where was everybody?), everything seemed worth the while… got to finish my laps, went back to the pit area injury free and most important of all to be greeted by the most precious award of all… my precious TROPHIES!!
