Interesting LTO Statistics

Posted by mcphils On March - 27 - 2006 206 views

Browsing through the LTO Website getting reference information to update the LTO Penalties and Fines information for this website. I came across an interesting set of statistics.

I was mildly surprised that the information was online and updated to boot, so that in itself was a minor miracle. But the information inside was an eye opener when it comes to the growth of the Motorcycle community.

The statistics for New MC registrants for the year 2005 was 585,482 nationwide. This is out of a TOTAL of 760,580 vehicles of ALL CLASSES and TYPES. Now this is a glaring 77% of all new vehicles registered nationwide. Now that’s a LOT of new MC’s on the road.

I knew the MC community was in for a boom as early as 2 years ago, but I guess the rise in gas prices and cost of living has affected a lot of people and greatly influences the shift towards the MC lifestyle.

It means LTO agency got lots of money from these newly registered motorcycles/scooters.

I agree. The cost of living and gas prices are the reasons why a lot of people shifted from 4-wheels (e.g. car) to motorcycle.

I think the motorcycle community (e.g. MCP) should regularly promote safety to the new/old motorcycle users.

Also I think LTO officers should strictly implement the examination/testing (written and actual) when getting a new drivers license to avoid undiscipline MC users on the road.

So how about a URL so we can all see the data

Sure the rise in gas prices and cost of living contributed to the increase of bikes but I wonder if this also tells us that more and more people can now afford to buy bikes or are borrowing more from financial institutions or from the bike shops themselves.

There are now a lot of affordable China bikes and I can see a growing number of big bikes on the streets. A number of people are also paying in installments to get their dream or investment bikes.

Many people are learning to ride on their own, which can be very dangerous.

There’s a huge opportunity here for MCP and MRC to educate this growing number of riders.

    That’s right Blitz.
It’s our duty to help educate our new brothers through this site or through the proper behaviour on the road. It’s a tough task but not impossible.

The rise in volune of MC sales can be attributed to marketing strategy by offering low downpayment for installment purchases. Plus the rising cost of fuel, most of cage driver are using MC for practical reasons. If the statistics are true no wonder why there is a delay in the release of license plate and stickers..Hoping that this rise will not cause chaos in the street.

Beware of info on fines on LTO site. At Makati City Hall many fines are much higher than shown – entry into a one way street is P 2,000 – not P 150 as shown in LTO.

Thanks for the heads up speccon. I’ve heard of this before. I hope they can standardize things soon.
