I just heard over the radio this morning what was being discussed in the forum for weeks now. All bikes are now banned from the SLEX. As far as the report was concerned they were only talking about the SLEX and have no word about the NLEX, Coastal Road and the Star Tollways.
This was in keeping with the Supreme Court decision banning all bikes from Limited Access Facilities, and the DOTC(?) order naming the various freeways as LAF’s, according to the report on radio. The funny thing is that, as stated in the report, they will start citing violators but will not issue tickets since they still have to wait for the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the ban.
From the moment this battle started, it was, and still is an uphill battle, even if the community as one came together, we still have to battle public opinion. One text from a listener even went as far as saying that all bikes need to banned from all major roads in the city, including EDSA, C5 and Roxas Boulevard. Now this may seem like a far fetched idea, but it really reflects on one major issue that all motorcyclists have to deal with day in and day out. We have an image problem. This will take a while to fix but this division between the community is not helping this or any cause we are trying to push forward.
Always the optimist, I hope this is a case of a step back to leap to steps forward, maybe it’s time we start acting as a real community and act as one.

That listener is an IGNORAMUS piece of S__T !
In other words, no more discrimination between bikers irregardless of what you ride.
No more selfishness and self-centeredness. MACAPILI’s, you are not welcome here.
DOWN WITH THE ILLEGAL BAN!! UNITE AS ONE!!
there is another gray area…..limited access highway means it is a pure highway not to be opened to any commercial establishments.
howcome there are gas stations, restaurants, and convenience stores on nlex and slex???.
It seems to be that riding a bike has become so complicated with all this regulations coming out..Don’t wear this..don’t go there…put this on…and to think of it…riding is suppose to be about freedom..I do agree it’s an image problem…from undisciplined riders..especially on toll booths where they just forced their way thru and cut every car who lined up…anyway lets be a responsible and courteuos rider and ride safely
and also take note of coastal road for crying out loud. peddlers, illegal openings, jeeps unloading, childrens playing just 1 leap from the steel barrier, name it all. you can see it. you described that as LAH? only in the philippines.
Ang sahin lng, WHAT’S THE POINT?
For banning big bikes sa expressway.
May katuturan ba?
ah. old laws na pala daw ito. eh di sure implement nila at wag sila tutlogtulog.
ah. old laws na pala daw ito. eh di sure implement nila at wag sila tutlogtulog.
no problem papasok pa din ako sa expressways using my bigbike. at di ako susunod sa batas. mas magaling ako kaysa sa authoridad at matigas ulo ko. wala silang paki sa safety ko . MATIGAS ULO KO.
banned na pala. hehe. no problemo
Don’t worry mga big bike bros tag ulan naman ngayon di masarap bumiyahe relax muna tayo…, you bet pag dating ng october at malamig na an issue on banning. Lifted na ulit yan! Ride to Live. Live to Ride!
I still use the SLEX up to now. kahapon lang. I still see other brothers using the SLEX, hindi naman sinisita. Right after the rainy season, wind is cold and it’s not summer hot anymore,we can go riding again. Peace out!
if they were to ban MC on SLEX, they need to inform us and implement it if really needed – to prevent conflicts…but over all, the idea is obscure and people behind it are demented!!
Regardless of which dept can decide the ban,
what are the legal basis for banning motorcycles on superhighways?
Has there been any studies that shows Motorbikes are in danger or dangerous on highways to support this ban?
If this decision came about just because someone on top decided to descriminate the cyclist community, can we fight him for that?
Can you publish his name and where he lives? I’m sure we can return the favor of his discrimaination. An eye for an eye!
We succeeded, partially being united during the rally against MMDA helmet-sticker policy…we did it once – we can do it again!
MCPeans UNITE! Against MC discrimination!
We are all tax payers and paid for the annual registration fees of our bikes. This entitles us to use all roads and highways of this country.
yes i also agree that we, the motorcycle riders has an image problem. these are due to the following: 1) law enforcers – those enforcing the law are the same ones violating it. you see police riding without helmet at all. how do we respect them or follow them; 2) delivery boys – you see them in a hurry all the time, kahit anong mangyari kelangan ma-deliver yung food in 30 minutes. tapos ang helmet, di na ka naka-fit properly; 3) lastly, us the private riders – just like delivery boys, they also ride like hell. they don’t care about traffic lights, rules of the road and the most important, the safety aspect. i’m pretty sure that more than 50% of the riders don’t use the prescribe riding gears, like wearing shorts, slippers, improper use of helmet (ginagawang elbow pad, ang tanga!). when it comes to bikes, they have no sideview mirror at all. marunong nga mag-ride pero di naman alam ang rules. kaya dapat, tayo na mismong mag-police sa mga riders, pag may mali, kuhanan ng pictures, sumbong sa lto, tapos i-blacklist para di na maka-register.
Marami tayo!
while the post calls for the unity of the community, may mga ilang nagreply pa rin depicting mc discrimination, if not, the “them and us” socialization
i though it should be “we bikers” and “you, non-bikers”, unfortunately there’s still “we big-bikers”, and the “you u-boners”
in between the working hours, common bikers are delivery boys. i think it will be acceptable to (1)have professional MC licenses for business users of bikes like tricycle drivers and delivery services (2)mcp party list to represent us in congress (unfortunately we still dont have the winning votes)
If someone ask me , this whole discussion is a joke. I mean if the gov is so concerned about safety why they dont checking up on jeepneys and buses? many of them have no lights or even propper brakes, as public transport!!! Public transport is in my country special observed to ensure the safety of the passangers and the public.
I would like to see a study how many bikers actually died on SLEX or NLEX and how many people died on public transport because of poor condition of the vehicle.
Targeting bikers seems to me is now the new thing for the gov to divert from real problems. How many stupid ideas poped up the last couples of month from plate number on helmets to ban helmets at all???
Well, Seems like we all have our own point of view. I give Bro nx650rd02 a TWO THUMBS UP!!! I think that is right. They should show us the Solid evidence of the “Accients” that they are talking about. They are somehow diverting our attention to what is real and what is not. Here’s to them “F*CK You!!!”. Anyways most accidents are caused by the freaking roads that we have (Where do all our taxes go???). Barbaric PUV’s and lets not forget us. Private. We should be responsible enough to check our bikes before riding it responsibly. Instead of having the time to check out what our goverment is doing, they found a solution on how to get our (rider’s and not) asses off their freaking business. And it is to create a diversion.
Safe riding Brothers.
GRASSROOT MOVEMENT IS THE ANSWER.
Idescriminate natin sila at pamilya nila! Mananalo tayo!
mr hotruss, sa tingin ko tama lang ang comment ni bigbikers, ang expressways natin e masyadong delikado sa mga underbones, sa weight at sa speed. so yung na-mention mo na ‘irregardless’, by the way, it’s ‘regardless’ of what u ride, parang di applicable, di ba? Susuporta ba mga underbones para lang sa mga big bikes to use the expressways?
Alam nyo mga bros, it is not a previlige where we can ride as some bumb ass individuals want us to believe but our GOD GIVEN RIGHTS as a citizen. We pay our taxes and this is what we get, talk about WALANG UTANG NA LOOB. The last time I checked this is a free country. It all boils down to the HIDDEN AGENDAS of these few individual who thinks they are doing a PUBLIC SERVICE for the good of the people. Service???? WHAT THE F***, they can kiss my sweet vfr pipes anytime.
hi guys
some of you know me some of you dont.
i agree with all that has been said by you guys,as an english guy living and riding here for the last eight years i understand where yuo are coming from.what i would like to say is me and my wife ride all over for the love of riding and the freedom if these assholes want to give me a ticket for commiting a violation i will pay the fine but i will not be told i cannot ride on a public highway just because i choose to ride a bike for pleasure.
what i want is a 1 on 1 whith the main man who dreams up these crasy ideas on live tv eg like ophra or gerry springer and if he can prove to me that bikes are unsafe and cause accidents on SLEX/NLEX i will stop riding and sell my bike but we all know he cant prove that also he probably hasnt got big enough balls to face us.
let me take him for a ride on NLEX and the in the province and then he can decide where it is safer to ride bikes.
As for the asshole who said all bikes should be banned from major highways he obviously never hadthe experience and adrenalin rush of riding a bike. ingat guys because that is the asshole who drives a fancy car or suv and pushes you of the road when he is overtaking because he thinks he has more right to be there because you are just a bike.
both me and my wife tess were on the freedom ride at balintawak back in february with jiggy and the other guys and yes we will be there again for freedomrine 9,10 11. and as many as it takes to be recognised as people and not second class citizens just because we ride bikes.if any one who reads this wants to send me an email it
tessandrichard@yahoo.com
we need all riders here in PHIL to gate crash the toll gates to be heard.
RIDE TO LIVE
LIVE TO RIDE
It’s relly rediculous!!! banning all kinds of bike at SLEX. They should have an study on this to have basis on their decission. Look while their toolway police are driving only 150cc bike the whole day along expressway.. No offense on some bike owners, let us not really insist those small bikes along expressway its really for their own safety!!! It’s really very dangerous to travel SLEX riding small bikes
In 1st world countries like Japan and US, 150cc can be used on freeways as long as they can meet the minimum speed limit.
Maybe you people are biased against smaller displacement bikes because you think they are not good enough (personally)to use the highways. With no PROOF and studies to backup your claim, you are no better than those people banning all bikes on tollways.
More people using sub400cc needs those highways to earn a living. Bigbikers rides for fun, sub400cc rides to feed their family. People who doesnt know how to ride or doesnt have dicipline in driving means we need sticter licensing, and law enforcement. Enforce driving school requirement for noobs and violators, give them 3 strike limit or something else. BUT TO DENY THEM SAFE AND MORE CONVINIENT ACCESS to critical roads to feed, earn their living is just plain bigotry and CRUEL.
I should not be suprised at all it happens to this corrupt, bigots running down this country into a backwater republic. booo! I hope heaven strikes down on you and deny you access just the same!
richard parker, i dont agree we should crash the gates to the tollways. i think the asshole you are referring to is the asshole at DOTC not the tollways. i believe he used to be a policeman or soldier. maybe he is not getting enough tong from the tolls so he conjures all this bans and prohibitions – just like rotten street cops. same strategy, bigger collection though. what other reasons should there be? they should not hide behind that old and frail regulation like most beureaucrat assholes do.
the tollways collect from bikes the same rate of toll as cars although bikes are just 1/4 the size and weight of cars. so they collect 4x the reasonable rate for bikes. so i believe they love bikes on the expressways. Me? i call it unjust enrichment.
@ bigbikers
authority may gusto nyan hindi kami, ok? wag kang makitid ok? peace. hehehe
Yes i agree that in first world countries all bikes are allowed on expressways as long as they can maintane the minimum speed limit.
Also yes i ride a big bike for pleasure because myself and my wife love to ride, i also have no probalem with small bikes on the expressways, everybody should have the right to choose what they ride wether big or small and everybody should have the right to ride on any highway as long as they ride with disaplin and can safley maintain the speed limit so that they do not endanger themselves or other road useres.
but as most other countries promote bikes for clean and green enviroment and tollgates are half the price of a car. I also believe that manila wants to be clean and green but it doesnt seem that way when you look at what we as riders are up against.
Gloria had people power a few years ago, we need rider power to be heard and recognised not just one or two hundred but twenty, thirty thousand at least all in one place at one at one time to protest.
that amount of people will draw a lot of attention espesially somewhere like EDSA at rush hour just totaly shut the road down, some of you may not agree with this idea but thats what we do in England but we tell the local police and they give us an escort. Trust me the centre of london has been shut down so many times because of protests but it works people listen and it gets a lot of media coverage. Think about it!!!!!
samuel
doesn’t sound appealing, right?
SLEX has a legal maximum speed limit of 100kph. It doesn’t matter if you are on a bigbike or not, for as long as you can meet the maximum speed requirement, and comply with safety.
How can you be side swiped by something if you are travelling at maximum legal speed? Unless of course, that person was travelling faster (which of course is illegal).
The point is, we should all be banding together for a cause which is right.
The only reason why I love smaller bikes, is because if their intrinsic agility, and it’s practicality for daily use. It’s cheap, economical, agile, and it meets the maximum speed requirements (and not only the minimum).
Why would I spend more, for something I cannot fully utilize?
Nutshell:
Unite not fall apart.
Do not blame lower dispalcement bikers for this restriction. We have as much right as everybody else. We pay our taxes, we meet maximum standards, we comply with safety (sometimes, even more than bigbikers).
It is not a question if being able to afford a bigbike, rather, if there need for one?
Fortunately, I can afford a big bike. I just don’t buy it, as there is no sensible need for me to do so (except of course for “feel-good” factor, which I do not have the need to address).
after lunch yesterday, toll attendant motioned me to go to a shotgun-armed guard at the sta rosa entry on my way to manila. was shown a document signed by an imperial re LAH. i showed him a
Tetch Torres article from INQ emailed to me by Edwin Sevidal of ABS-CBN saying it was not enforceable yet. i asked the guard why they do not post a big sign before the the entry as bikers normally can read and are generally law-abiding. guard says he was just implementing orders and that every weekend was a problem for them because many big bikers are complaining. i told him we are not enemies. mayroon lang kasing mga guwapong bikers na nakadagit ng mga syota at mga alagang GRO ng mga pilatong may ’say’ sa kung sino lang ang puwede sa SLEX.’ take note: big bike lang at hindi SUV ang kargada ng mga guwapong ito. guard could not smile. i thought i had the last laugh after he allowed me in. until i realized i was not given a pass. managed to smile pa rin naman as the attendant simply accepted my declaration that i indeed entered sta rosa. mga guwapo dyan: soli nyo na yung mga chica babes nila para di na tayo pagdiskitahan! la na akong ibang maisip na matinong dahilan kung hindi yon kasi. abangan ang susunod na kabanata pag uwi ko ulit ng laguna. bow!
kamote ka talaga bro
there was a time when the NLEX was left open to the public ‘cuz PNCC turned-over responsibilities to the gov’t. So there were no toll fees, no patrols (even lights at night!)But you know what? not many small bike owners went through it. Why? I tried it myself and true enough when you get to reach high speeds (not even maximum!)crosswinds come and hit you from the sides! I wonder how underbones today would behave under those circumstances. Yes we are much lowered; yes, we have more power but isn’t our weight also reduced? When travelling at 60kph and a crosswind also blowing at 60kph hits you, that’s 120kph worth of wind power! What do you think would happen to a bike weighing at an average of 98 to 100kgs (including biker)? Is the freedom worth the risks? MacArthur highway would be a better alternative. Think about it.
@bigbikers
