One way of finding out how deep you go, is how many check strips remain on your tires. The more that are gone, the deeper you have gone into the curve (of course for the cheaters a bit of sandpaper will resolve that issue).

Land Transportation Office is deferring the implementation of Radio Frequency Identification on all motorcycles since the agency has yet to decide where the electronic tags will be installed.

Enforcing the radio tag order on all vehicles is originally scheduled today, but LTO said motorcycle owners would have a grace period.

In a circular, Assistant Secretary Arturo Lomibao, LTO chief, said all motor vehicles should be tagged on or before Oct. 31, 2010.

All motorcycles will have to turn their headlights on even during daytime in 2010 or face stiff penalties if a plan of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) pushes through.

LTO Traffic Safety Division chief Daisy Jacobo, who is drafting the guidelines of the new policy, said the agency would soon penalize riders who refuse to turn on the headlights of their motorcycle units.

So, absent a law, people are not particularly inclined to wear a helmet.

In the wake of the marked increase in the number of road accidents involving motorcycles in Metro Manila from 2001 until 2006, the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA), the FMN for the Philippines which I head and supervise took a bold step to address the concern by proposing the creation of a law enforcing the mandatory use of daytime running lights (DRL) on all motorcycles plying Metro Manila thoroughfares to our local government.

After securing his record ninth MotoGP title, there’s little doubt that Valentino Rossi is the fastest man on two wheels. And BMW has acknowledged the Italian rider’s speed by awarding him a brand-spankin’-new M3 sedan.

The German automaker is a sponsor of the motorbike racing series, providing organizers with safety cars and other vehicles, and even using it to debut the new X6 M crossover earlier this year. And every year BMW gifts a car to the rider who proved the fastest in qualifying over the course of the season. Rossi’s won the “M Award” five times now, but before he drove off in his new V8 sports sedan, BMW gave him a rare opportunity to sample the new hardcore M3 GTS.
