MDPPA-IR CUP April 17 Lipa City- Fiesta Speedway

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) established in 1968 and currently composed of seven manufacturers (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Motorstar, MCX, Yamaha and Kymco) sells approximately 90% of the total new motorcycle sales in the country.

InsideRACING is the country’s first and best selling motorcycle and scooter magazine. It has the widest distribution network spanning the whole nation and well known among motorcycle enthusiasts nationwide.

Together, the MDPPA and IR organizations  have teamed up for 2010 to create more race enthusiasts by showcasing the sport of motorcycle racing to more people thru exciting events in venues that are more accessible. These vents will give more people a taste of motor sport and create more fans that will further grow the local sport and related industry.

The MDPPA -IR Cup Series is designed to introduce racing to new audience and discover new riding talents that can be developed into national or international racers. The racing is simple to understand and events are action-packed. It is designed to attract the casual fans to watch and enjoy the exciting world of racing. These pocket events will give more people a taste of motor sport and create more fans that will further grow the local sport and related industry.

The MDPPA- IR Cup is for the benefit of MDPPA’s Safety Riding Programs. Aside from promoting “Racing on the Track Not on the Streets”, part of the proceeds of this activity will go directly to the MDPPA’s Road Safety programs scheduled for 2010.

Special Beginner Invitational Club Race Category

To encourage local riders to participate, a special “Beginner Invitational Club Race” will also be held where in any club can enter a ride. It is restricted to Beginner riders only and the only machine rule is that the bike must be locally sold 4-stroke model and below 150cc.

MOTOKHANA 2010 Begins at the 4^thInside Racing Bike Festival and Trade Show

MOTOKHANA 2010 is finally here for the many who have been awaiting the 2^nd year of this revolutionary rider skills challenge!

And what better way to launch its sophomore stint in the Philippine 2-wheel sporting world than at the year’s biggest motorcycle exhibition — the 4^th Inside Racing Bike Festival and Trade Show on 27-28 March 2010 at The Megatent in Pasig City.

And just like in its pilot year, the 2010 MOTOKHANA is presented by CASTROL ACTIV PREMIUM.

After a very warm reception and a successful three-day stint in Mandaue City, Cebu during the 16^th Annual Motorcycle Convention of the National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines, the NRA brings the MOTOKHANA back to Metro Manila with five (5) more events scheduled in the city’s  popular malls, including the IR Bikefest and Trade Show.

New and exciting things are also being introduced for MOTOKHANA 2010, with added thrills, more challenges, and bigger cash prizes!

An Expert Class is added this year, with two (2) categories of Solo-SCOOTER / UNDERBONE / MOTORCYCLE and TEAM (Two (2) riders of One (1) Novice and One (1) Expert).

Expert Class entry fee is Php 1,000 per category.

Cash Prizes await the top three (3) finishers per Expert category with respective cash prizes of Php 5,000, Php 3,000 and Php 2,000.

The Novice Class continues with its four (4) categories of Solo-SCOOTER, Solo-UNDERBONE, Solo-MOTORCYCLE, and TEAM (Two (2) Novice riders).

Novice Class entry fee is Php 500 per category.

The top six (6) finishers per Novice category get to bring home Php 2,500, Php 2,000, Php 1,500, Php 700, Php 500, and Php 300 respectively.

Please note that to be able to join the TEAM Events, participants must first register for any of the SOLO Categories in their respective classes.

A discount, however, will be given to participants who buy a 1-litre bottle of Castrol Activ Premium within four (4) weeks of a scheduled 2010 MOTOKHANA event.  Just show an official receipt or proof of purchase and Php 200 will be taken off their regular entry fee!

To be eligible for competition, cash prizes, and other giveaways, participants must pay the corresponding entry fee, register for their desired class and category(ies), show a riding license with Restriction 1, and they’re good to go!

Competitors must also have a registered motorcycle or scooter, and minimum gear of a DOT-approved helmet, long-sleeved shirt/jersey/jacket, sturdy long pants, full-fingered gloves, and covered riding shoes to join.

Anyone and everyone, however, can try-out the MOTOKHANA track for free, provided they have the minimum riding gear, show a license to ride, and sign a waiver form before being allowed entry into the course. Motorcycles will be provided by the NRA at the event site for those who wish to experience maneuvering through the different lay-outs of the MOTOKHANA.

Noise-level testing will also be done by the NRA on participants’ machines as the organizer’s way of helping the environment. To pass inspection, scooters and motorcycles must have a maximum level of 92 decibels.

Its a retreat like no other.

This coming April 9 and 10, 2010, the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) Manila Chapter & FaithRiders Motorcycle Ministry will be holding its 2nd Bikers Ride Retreat in Subic, Zambales. The first one was held in Tagaytay City in the 4th quarter of 2009.

A bikers ride retreat is what it says – it is a retreat designed by bikers for bikers and it will start off and end with a ride to and from the venue. It is a retreat like no other. The main focus of the retreat is to provide the attending bikers an opportunity to rest and relax among biker friends, to have good time, and most importantly to regain that connection with God.

As bikers, we are faced with the constant risk of dying from our passion. We believe that as much as we invest in protective gear for our temporary earthly bodies, it is as important to invest in protecting our eternal spirit or soul.

Sa MOTOKHANA — Ang Rider, Kayang-kaya!

NEXT TRACK DAY — 06 DECEMBER 2009 —- AT THE NEWLY OPENED CLARK INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (CIS) IN ANGELES CITY!

The National Racing Association’s Track Day last 23 August 2009 at the Batangas Racing Circuit had as many F words faster than you can say F_ _ _! (That’s for “FUNK” you people!) It had FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOOD, FUN, FERVOR, FREAKS (TD Freaks that is!), FAST riders, FANCY bikes, FAMILIAR and FAMOUS FACES, FASHIONABLE gear, and lots of FANS!

Presented by Bridgestone Tires, the “F”ourth NRA Track Day for 2009, under event director and NRA Prez Jake Swann, drew the participation of more than 80 motorbike enthusiasts (and that’s not counting the ride marshals, who included current and former racers Migs Ripoll, Rod Chua, Jay Carrion, Richie Lazaro, and Jade Lazaro) and quite a number claiming “I’m Only Here to Watch” motorcyclists) from mostly big to small displacements, who all feverishly (another F word!) rode around the 3.7 kilometer track under clear, bright, beautiful skies  throughout the day.

Usual Track Day suspects in attendance were Superbike champs Glenn Aguilar, Toti Alberto, Miguel Bichara, Ryan Medina, and SBK racers John Defensor, Joby Tanseco, Nino Garcia, JC Villanueva and small and big bike ace Dashi Watanabe. Even u-bone expert Jeff Chan was there! But what really got the fans jumping in the stands and the girls screaming “I Love You’s” was not the presence of these bike hunks, but two (literally!) small bike wonder kids, 9-year old Brandel Ortiz, and 12-year old Mokoy Ancheta.

Brandel, son of former Superbike (Expert Class) racer Randy Ortiz, and riding on a shiny yellow Betrakit 75cc, and Mokoy, on an equally bright yellow and blue Honda Wave 100cc, totally held their own against bigger, taller, and more experienced Track Day riders around the huge (at least for these two!) BRC circuit.  Their proud parents, as well as a hundred more spectators in the paddocks and in the grandstands, cheered them on during their track sessions as if actual races were going on (take that you big boys!)

Speaking of parents and their kids, Track Day also became a Family Day of sorts as several riders had their families in tow — wives, dads, moms, aunts, uncles, grandmas, even their little babies!

Track Day fans also had a blast watching two fun races in the afternoon — a 4-lap event for the big bikes, and another 3-lap affair for the small bikes. In the big bike class, the racers and experts, however, became distraught as the “fun rules” restricted them from joining the non-experts. They had a great time, nevertheless watching their friends and fellow riders experience close to what the “real deal” is like at BRC.

A lot more joined the small bike fun race (as the rules didn’t restrict the racers from joining this time) which was participated in among others by Dashi, Brandel, and Mokoy. And what a treat these small motor bikers gave the audience! No prizes though. Just the grand reward of having ridden the impressive Batangas track with these uber-talented racers and fellow bike enthusiasts!

But the excitement of the day didn’t stop there!  TradeTech Marketing, a Batangas-based company, had a display during Track Day too. But wait!  Before you can scratch your head and ask, they’re the exclusive Philippine distributors of MotoAir, a textile riding jacket — with a built-in air bag! (We told you it was exciting!)  TradeTech received a lot of inquiries about these jackets and pretty soon this product will make its debut in the Metro Manila market.

Motorcycle clubs that came in full force for the NRA Track Day were Bikers Unlimited, Disciples, P_k-P_k Riders, Toy Bikes MC, Bagwis Manila, Club R, Motobok, and several from ATAT, Ducati Unlimited Club, and Club 200.

All in all, the NRA Track Day last Sunday was a very successful and most enjoyable affair for the organizers, the participants, spectators, guests, and everyone in general.
