With the first showers of the season comes the reminder that the rains are coming. Riding when its dry is a challenge in itself but riding in the rain is a totally different thing.
Water on the road, in your helmet, in your underwear, water everywhere! Those are just some of the nuances of riding and living in the rain.
To the uninitiated this can be a scary experience. But don’t fret the old timers on Motorcycle Philippines are here to help you as they give you advice on how to survive….Riding in Rain!
Ok guys, let the tips begin!

Maintain regular air pressure. Some think reducing air pressure will give more traction…far from it. Keep it smooth. From braking to throttle control to shifting. Reduce speed especially when its pouring hard to avoid aquaplaning.
Buy quality waterproof shoes and raincoat, because they will keep you dry and to avoid sickness.
INSTALL A WIPER ON YOUR HELMET OR GOOGLES…HEHE
always switch on the light when driving in the rain even when a day driving. dont run fast especially on curve, its “slippery when wet”. better pull up when the rain gettin harder.
for trail riders, its fun when rainin, it adds some excitement when water and mud splashes to the bike and rider…whew…
ride safe and always bring ur backride to grip on the umbrella, and its better if the backride is on the opposite sex so the rider may feel the warm embrace during the cold rainy ride.
When the road is wet, at least double your safety distance from other vehicles, reduce speed and ride very smoooooothly.
its a goggles(my mistake)
My tip is more on the rider. Don’t wear nice shoes. wear an old shoe that you think is ok to get dirty and wet. you know that thingy you see in the malls to protect your shoes from getting wet? the cellophane thing? i wear that AFTER my socks and before i wear the shoe. the shoe is wet but my feet and socks are dry. wear it off immediately after the ride huh, you know… for hygeine. remember to carry with you your true working shoes or else, a disaster throughout the day. as for the shirt and pants, buy the raincoat designed for bikes, the two piece one, for the tops and the pants, never the one piece type- its like wearing a dress on a bike. wear waterproof gloves. a small towel for your back. heat in wearing plastic atop your shirt is worse even under the rain. a small rag to wipe those visor lens. this will serve as your wipers. dirt coming from the vehicles’ wheels in front of you is no joke. And most of all: A more defensive attitude and a keen perception of the road and traffic condition. Don’t insist when in doubt.
Ride safe under the rain…
Avoid metal plates and strips.
Also avoid the road paints especially when turning a curve and braking.
Avoid cracks(you could slipt and broke your legs..) and floody area(maybe there will be a manhole enough for your wheels to fit in and for you to fly off your bike).
Turn your headlights and parklights on or if you do have some hazard lights turn in on to be visible on the road..
Rideeee Safeeeee!!!!!….
Also Avoid road that made of Tiles. Its very slippery I tell you. I myself had experience with that thing..
Ride Safe… BurnOUt.. Bbbrrrruummm….
Beware or avoid flooded pot holes, go figure…
control front disk brakes. use front and rear breaks at a time to avoid swiveling. i hope this helps…god bless
when riding in the rain at nigth leave enough room between you and the vehicle in front of you..this way, you may also get a glimpse of the other vehicle’s ( in front of him) tail light reflection at the pavement, under his car…when he hits the brake, you can react before the guy in front of you applies his brakes.
Well, now that almost everything’s been said, I’ll just say one more important thing.
HAVE FUN RIDING IN THE RAIN!
avoid using ur bike 4 ur own safety and getting wet.hehe!
Cmon guys dont let the rain spoil your ride just make sure have the proper wet riding gear and hinay-hinay lang . As Tat said HAVE FUN RIDING IN THE RAIN OKKKKKKK
For the bike:
- change to waterproof spark plug caps if you
havent done that yet.
- check that all your electrical connections are
well grounded and properly insulated
- check thickness of brake pads. Wet conditions
will decrease the brake pads stoping abilities
- Bring a chamois rag/ cloth. ordinary cloth
rags will not be able to completely dry your
seat/ bike/ visor.
For the Rider:
- dress to get wet. But bring an extra change of
clothes INCLUDING underwear and socks.
- Invest in a quality waterproof but breathable
and venting jacket. Tecnik and Komine have
good models. Bottled up in plastic will make
you almost as wet as riding in the rain.
Riding in the rain …special strong rain…in the metropolis is never fun…unless you’re a masochist or you havent actually done it or doit in your subdivision. But its something that all real riders have to contend with.
Utmost concentration is needed to distance yourself between cars whose visibility is also limited, avoid unseen potholes, avoid oil/ water slicks, avoding hydroplaning etc.
Take care out there guys……
yup, keep your concentration up from normal. now, when it’s pouring hard you wouldn’t really see the potholes (they’re just filled with water) – right!?….my recommendation would be is to go slow when riding through unfamiliar roads – or just pass through roads really familiar to you where you can ride through even with your eyes closed (no, no don’t fool!)…that’s that…and if none of them work…just tap dance your way home and sing in the rain “daw”!!!hwahwa!!….ayos!!
I say invest in good tires and keep it easy on the brakes, especially your front brakes. Good spacing between the vehicle infront of you and turn your lights on!
Ride safe!
Avoid dried oil spots on the road. They become slippery when wet. Just be extra careful when it rains.
Wow! Almost all have been said .. here’s some of mine ..
If you are going to office or work, if possible, always have an extra shirt or polo, pants, undies and socks on your locker or office. You might get very wet going to office but having those extras will save your day.
Leave early or ahead of your usual time to save you from the hassles or so as not to rush yourself. And so you can change to office attire without the rush. And remember, it is always slippery when wet! So be very extra careful.
Enjoy the rain guys! Ohh .. here’s another one .. Before I almost forgot .. I was about to enjoy it this morning even though it was raining hard and the wind was so strong. I was checking the situation outside when I saw lots of GI sheets and signboards all over the road. I guess it’s not safe today. For safety purposes check the situation outside too before you ride. Don’t forget, safety first!

aba mga bro nakalimutan nyo magpasalamat sa website natin he he he .
Reduce your tire pressure a little for a little more traction. Ride with your lights on (which you should be doing, even if it isn’t raining.)Accept the fact that this is not the time to set any fuel economy or speed records. Have fun.
If your caught unprepared…enjoy the rain! Enjoy the ride! Don’t try to beat it by going fast as if it would really matter… you will get wet! Trying to run away from the rain (as if it is possible) will just get you into trouble.
If you are going riding to an important meeting, wouldn’t you want to arrive there wearing the best wet look fashion rather than a skid mark, a couple of bruises and remnants of asphalt on your wet shirt and tie? What else can you do but to ride safe and enjoy the rain.
If you really don’t want to get wet, pull over and take a pit stop at a gas station, anywhere where you can park your bike and yourself in relative safety.
Another thing po, pag basa ang brake pads, mahina po ang kapit ng preno, mas mahaba po ang stoping distance ng basang preno kesa tuyo. Kaya po kaunting ingat lang pag umuulan, keep a longer distance sa sinusundan.
perfect site good information, very nice news and etc… tnx
