Caloocan Police gets Php 250,000 bikes
27
June
I first heard of this news over the radio yesterday.
The Caloocan police acquired 10 Motorcycle units for their police force to counter act the recent string of thefts involving motorcycle riders in tandem in their area. I thought well then good, maybe they do need to do that instead of passing stupid laws like the stupid helmet sticker law. Then I heard something at the end of the report regarding the cost of the units, something around the area of Php 250,000.00. Again I thought, wow such a big amount for a bike, but giving them the benefit of the doubt again since Caloocan is the bike capital of the city and this is not the first time I’ve heard of bikes that expensive being used for security (Bgy. San Antonio in Pasig purchased a handful of units of Honda CB 400’s for their security force a few years back and are still in use today).
But this morning confirmed what I was dreading. Another news report on the local radio reported that after the turnover ceremonies yesterday, some of the bikes could not be used since there were defective parts (leaky gas tanks and various parts falling off the bike) on some units and some units refused to start. They again reported that these units were purchased for Php 249,000.00, a discussion ensued about what bike they bought, since at that amount you can get a really second hand big bike or a brand new scoot (in fact several scoots). The reporter mentioned something like “yung parang madami sa daan ngayon” (“the kind we most often see on the road today”), which undoubtedly means it was an underbone. Now I’m not familiar with underbone prices nowadays but can somebody please tell me if there are underbones that cost that much, and if there are, why do they have such build quality.
It’s pretty obvious some people made money in this deal, not just small money, a huge chunk of money. Php 250,000.00 multiplied by 10 is Php 2.5 Million. For argument’s sake let’s put the price of their bikes at Php 50,000.00 and the total bill would be Php 500,000.00 for the entire fleet. Someone did make a killing of Php 2 Million. This is Php 2 Million of our money folks, our money, the money which we’ve worked hard for.
The least they could have done was bought proper bikes for our poor policemen.

11. ShopBoy | June 27th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Grabe ano itong binili nila???
12. Dr. Prangka | June 27th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
With 250k they should’ve gotten a Vmax or, for 150k, an FZX. No car or bike will outrun ‘em now.
13. jayGarcia™ | June 27th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
im sure hindi nanakawan ang pulis nyan. malamang may under the table agreement yung mga pulis tsaka yung shop na seller ng bikes.

20. camoteq | June 28th, 2007 at 12:41 am
Wow P250k each, and the purpose of the bikes was to go after thefts, huh? eh mas malaking halaga pa ninakaw nila dun sa pagbili nila ng motor kesa sa paggagamitan nila eh.
21. lapu-lapu | June 28th, 2007 at 3:49 am
someone should put these guys on the ombudsman list of thieves. they’re government workers subject to audit.
22. forza | June 28th, 2007 at 7:51 am
We are being taxed every month as much as 3k tang!!!!!!@#$% naman that is already enough for the milk of my 3 kids tapos wawalanghiyaan lang ng mga pu@#$%%^^^ mga government employees nayan but im not saying all of them are bad TNX!!!!
23. hotruss | June 28th, 2007 at 9:10 am
Hold on guys.
For now, lets give them the benifit of the doubt.
24. Mikaelo | June 28th, 2007 at 9:50 am
Doesn’t make any sense. P250k is a huge amount of money. Thinking that they bought 10 units…sana nag-isip na lang sila ng mas magandang paraan para ma-solve ang nakawan.
25. bushotato | June 28th, 2007 at 9:52 am
Asa pa tayo. May under the table yan. Whoooa!
26. JIMIKAZEEE | June 28th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
hahaha!!! umiral na naman si taning…. 250k for a motorbike that is nuts… dami dami dyan china made na motorbike na ok naman and will cost less than 60k… wahahahahaha… di na talaga tau aasenso..
27. basuelbayoboy | June 28th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

28. GhostRider | June 28th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
250k ha! ni hindi nga sila makapag implement ng Helmet rule sa caloocan eh! tapos para saan naman yung mga MC na yan? a! alam kjo na! para sa mga parada, escort ng patay, escort ng mga 10wheeler trucks na walang plate numbers, at syempre pampapogi ng mga gagamit. mga aswang na lantaran at nanakaw na nila ang dapat bantayan. this is were our taxes go!

35. T34418l3-1 | July 1st, 2007 at 9:38 pm
will someone please confirm if its really 250K each? or for the entire fleet? if its 250K each then thats very ridiculous! lets throttle our tax paying ass to office of the ombudsman. lets not put our hard earned tax gone to their shark infested belly.
36. leo | July 1st, 2007 at 9:41 pm

37. Cyre | July 1st, 2007 at 10:10 pm

39. nikolai | July 2nd, 2007 at 12:50 am
40. avespaguy | July 3rd, 2007 at 10:03 am
Having some knowledge of these transactions, this is the way things work… total cost = price of bike (whatever it is) + flashing lights, a bunch of metal crash guards, siren, windscreen, special decals if included + whatever markups happen along the way.
Now if the bikes are bone stock, then it’s blatant corruption right there, otherwise it’s just negosyo.
Not that I’m siding with them, nor have i ever personally made a centavo from a deal like this, it’s just the Philippine way of business for the most part. And, the money does not come too easy to the seller either, as collecting for them is a whole other story.
41. chescrchar | July 3rd, 2007 at 12:03 pm
I don’t think they got underbones, what they got are under-table-bones, hahaha. What a laughing joke to the whole wide world!!! These people are shameless! Can someone dig out who signed the purchase contract and who supplied the bikes? Another incident just like the Cebu lamp post.
42. ejay | July 5th, 2007 at 11:19 am
ah, tama, baka nga 250k each bike, mga bros, simple lang naman yan eh, bakit di nyo ma-gets? ganito: 250k each bike di ba?, so how much downpayment now? as low as 4k? therefore, sa 250k, minus 4k downpayment is 246k for the pocket of each police, di ba simple? at kaya sirain kase di naman branded underbones yung mga kinuha nila. hehehe.
tama ba?!!!
