One Gorgeous Tricycle!

Posted by JohnRana On March - 13 - 2008

tricycle-calvintang.jpg(photo courtesy of Calvin Tang) Here in Philippines, when one talks about a motorcycle mounted with a sidecar, the image of the good ol’ tricycle would immediately pop to any Filipino’s mind. The three-wheeler is essentially a mini-version of the more popular jeepney. It’s a workhorse that carries cargo and passengers which can easily fit narrow streets and alleyways unlike the other bigger public transports (more info about Philippine tricycles here).

Yesterday, Eugene, a ride buddy and founder of Scoot66 (a riding club composed of Vespistis mostly based in southern Manila) posted in vespaclubph forum a couple a pictures of another “trike” not usually seen in the streets of Manila. It’s an immaculate white Vespa PX with a bullet-shaped, Cozy sidecar attached to it. My fascination with single seater, open and roofless sidecars may have been nurtured at a very young age while watching Star Rangers daily in the late 70s. But seeing the picture of those five superheroes now, I realize that their chosen mode of transport looks no different from the mobile patrol of the Barangay tanod (neighborhood peacekeepers) in our area. hahaha!

Here’s the front view of this drool-worthy Vespa sidecar:

So could this thing fit a grown man for a side passenger? Check out the sideview photo and see the legroom.

2nd Inside Racing Bikefest

2nd Inside Racing Bikefest

I had the good fortune to visit the 2nd Inside Racing Bikefest last Saturday March 8 at the Silver City Complex in Tiendesitas here in Pasig City. I was really impressed by the whole setup of the event. Most of the major bike manufacturers were there except for Yamaha which, as I was told by Al Camba of Inside Racing had a prior commitment in Cebu. There were a lot of other exhibitors which more than made up for the absence of Yamaha. You could find almost anything even remotely related to bikes displayed. My personal favorites were the Von Dutch motorbike which allegedly had an engine milled from a single block of aluminum and the motorcycle trailer display.

Congratulations to the Inside Racing family and most specially to Al Camba for a very successful event and MotorcyclePhilippines.Com is again happy to be a proud partner this year.

More pictures after the jump.

Mad Dog Member Neil Barnes in Fatal Accident on SLEX

Posted by mcphils On March - 3 - 2008

As reported on ABS-CBN News TV Patrol last night, Mad Dog MC Club Member and Australian national Neil Barnes was killed in an accident involving a passenger bus and Mr. Barnes.

According to eyewitness reports, the bus rear-ended Mr. Barnes as their group was slowing down to pull into a gas station along the South Luzon Expressway. The driver of the bus apparently escaped after the accident (according to the news report). Curiously the initial report on the ABS-CBN News website has mysteriously disappeared and is no longer viewable.

This is not the first time an accident involving passenger buses and motorcycles have been covered by mainstream media. But this is the first time in a long while that a member of a well known and respected MC Club was involved.

We hope that this case will receive justice swiftly. We remember all too well the runaround some families have been given.

Motorcycle Philippines extends it’s condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Neil Barnes.

from the MDMC website.
