The Philippines will again play host to the FIM-UAM Asian Supercross Championships, this time at the Fast Track Circuit in Upper Bicutan, Taguig City for the second round set July 22.2007. It’s been 10 years since an international motocross event has been staged right at the heart of Metro Manila, the last was in 1997 when Marikina hosted an international race participated in by four foreign countries.

Caloocan Police gets Php 250,000 bikes

Posted by Vespinoy On June - 27 - 2007

I first heard of this news over the radio yesterday.

The Caloocan police acquired 10 Motorcycle units for their police force to counter act the recent string of thefts involving motorcycle riders in tandem in their area. I thought well then good, maybe they do need to do that instead of passing stupid laws like the stupid helmet sticker law. Then I heard something at the end of the report regarding the cost of the units, something around the area of Php 250,000.00. Again I thought, wow such a big amount for a bike, but giving them the benefit of the doubt again since Caloocan is the bike capital of the city and this is not the first time I’ve heard of bikes that expensive being used for security (Bgy. San Antonio in Pasig purchased a handful of units of Honda CB 400’s for their security force a few years back and are still in use today).

The idea is just so absurd, it looks funny. But no one’s laughing.

The motorcycling community’s uproar should not fall on deaf ears! Let’s hope the people in MMDA have gone online to read our sentiments. Should you want to personally email Chairman Bayani Fernando, you may do so in this address: chairman_bfmmda@yahoo.com.

UPDATE: As it was reported, emails to the above address are already bouncing. I personally called the Office of the Chairman to get BF’s new email address. I’ve also forwarded my email to the said address just to be sure it’s working. Here it is: bayanibf_fernando@yahoo.com.

Let me know if your email starts to bounce thru that address as well.

May he be enlightened. Amen.

Dr. Scoot weighs in on the MMC Resolution

Posted by mcphils On June - 25 - 2007

I received this email from a very livid Dr. Scoot (from Scooterista magazine). He has asked me to publish it in full.

I would just like to air my sentiments as a motorcyclist. Mr. Chairman, how did you come-up with a law without consulting the riding public? Do we have rights to show our concerns and recommendations with the lawmakers before making this stupid and prejudice ordinance? Is our law, ” INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY” been changed to ” GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT” Are there persons or entities changed without announcement our PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION? Iba na ba ang Bill of rights natin? PAG-NAKAMOTORSIKLO KA PALA, KRIMINAL ANG TINGIN SA IYO NG IBANG TAO. Napaka-degrading pala. Porke hindi mo kayang bumili ng kotse at wala kang kaya…kriminal ka na pala?

You think, this new ordinance regarding helmets with letters and numbers of our plate will solve the crime problem? I don’t think so.

Hindi ba, pwede mong i-hambing ito sa pagiging racist?!

Sana, ma-mulat ang inyong mga mata na marami pong concerned. Kaya BUMUSINA MUNA PO KAYO BAGO TUMULOY!

Biker riders are now felons

Posted by Vespinoy On June - 25 - 2007

If i read the MMDA’s chairman’s statement correctly, we are now officially criminals who are guilty before being proven innocent.

Read this.

He suggested that the Metro mayors enact a common resolution stipulating that the failure to put the license plate numbers on the helmets of motorcycle owners and riders should be treated as a criminal offense and not as a mere traffic violation to thwart criminals from using motorcycles in the commission of crimes.

“No plate on the helmet should carry with it stiffer penalties – like impounding the motorcycle and the appropriate fines and charges because there is a deliberate attempt by the felon to conceal his identity and avoid positive identification by the public,” Fernando said.
