Motorcycle Philippines

The NAMSSA has urged the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to implement the Daylight Riding Light (DRL) scheme for the safety of motorcycle riders in the country. After the audience with the Metro Manila Council of Mayors last February and has been unanimously approved and awaiting their ratification and implementation within 15 days of publishing.

In a proposal issued to the MMDA, Macky Carapiet, director general of National Motorcycle Sport and Safety Association (Namssa), said the emergence of affordable terms of payments, fuel efficient and less traffic for motorcycle users resulted in the increase of motorcycles on the road and that his group is concerned with the safety of motorists.

Namssa is the Philippine representative to the Federation International de Motocycliste, the world sports governing body based in Switzerland composed of 100 countries.

What started out as a “Breaking In” ride for 3 Vespa Granturismos ended up being a full scale ride and photo op in Batangas.

This ride was planned middle of last year 2006, to break what was done before, three years ago by 12 members of Jet Riders Club Phils to Cebu City in the Visayas . This time to make a landmark in riding scooters around the country, using SYM scooters (GTS 250, Joyride 200, Shark 150) to reach downsouth Mindanao from Luzon and going back again to Manila by land and roro’s in 14 days, spearheaded by JRC Pres. Roel del Rosario. This ride was make possible thru the help and support of Mitsukoshi Phils. Inc. and Castrol Phils., to promote local tourism and scootering around the country. I’ll make this report short and sweet to make it easier to visualize this amazing ride.

Vespinoy forum member VESPA had a rare chance to visit one of Japan’s top Vespa collectors.

Mr.Suguira San is a well known vintage Vespa collector in Japan, and probably has the most complete line of Vintage Vespa collection under one roof. I saw 4 complete fenderlights, GS’, GLs, VBB’s, SS”,lots of small frames, etc….. a one of a kind PX200e w a sidecar with lots of modification. I was so overwhelmed with what i saw and i cant seem to focus my eyes on which Vespa to look at.

I seldom get enough free time to enjoy weekend rides with my buddies because my work shifts vary, my days off vary as well as time spent for my clinic and family. So when my leaves for Saturday-Monday were approved, I decided to treat my wife to a helluva ride – short ride.

We left 7:45pm Friday night for Tagaytay. An earlier sms from CMC President Bugoi said he’ll gather some riders and meet us for a midnight run. We (Hazel and I) arrived with no incident at Mahogany to have dinner around 8:30pm. We ate caldereta, gotobats, tawilis and tokwa’t baboy. Then we proceeded to Starbucks for dessert and coffee, she had a mocha frap tallest glass and I had a large brewed together we gobbled on a piece of belgian waffle topped with mocha syrup and whipped cream. Around 10:30pm, we decided to scout for places to spend the night and ended up in Jade Inn, a few hundred feet from the Rotonda to the left going to People’s park. An ordinary single room w/ toilet and bath and electric fan costs about 800 there. Discounts available if you check in really late and leave early before 12nn check out time. After a quick shower (cold!) and watching cable tv, yes may tv ang room and cable pa…Pres. Bugoi sent another sms – where are you? I found out nasa Shell sila past mushroom burger and told them to wait for me…mga 12:30am na Saturday morning. So I geared up, forgot my gloves and in 5 minutes or less I think I was there at Shell. I met up with Eagle1, Budz, Bullseye and Tru1209 and we were having a great time discussing and sharing stories.
